Hatch Mansfield joins forces with the Woodland Trust

Hatch Mansfield has announced the removal 223 tonnes of carbon by planting 1,000 native British trees through the Woodland Trust under the charity's Woodland Carbon scheme.

Under its environmental management system and long-term commitment to ISO 14001 accreditation, the agency has chosen to work with the Woodland Trust in a bid to mitigate its impact on the environment by balancing the CO2 emissions of all business mileage for company cars, trains and flights via the scheme.

The decision to work with the trust stems from the philosophy that trees are considered nature's most powerful tool in helping to combat climate change by sucking in harmful carbon dioxide emissions from the atmosphere and breathing out fresh, clean oxygen.

As they grow, trees absorb the CO2 emissions and store the carbon in their roots, trunks and branches that stays there for the lifetime of the tree. By planting new ones, it creates a cycle whereby CO2 is being permanently removed leading to cleaner, fresher air to breathe which in turn helps cool down the planet. The tree-planting scheme also offers other sustainable benefits such as supporting insects and wildlife.

Patrick McGrath MW, managing director of Hatch Mansfield, says: "We looked at a number of options for balancing our CO2 but the Woodland Trust scheme resonated with us the most. We feel it is important to support a project here in the UK and the list of social and environmental benefits are overwhelmingly positive. The long-term aspect of the Woodland Carbon Code reflects Hatch Mansfield's philosophy of building brands in the UK market in a careful and sustainable manner."
