The fourth Concours Mondial du Sauvignon competition took place last week and saw wines from the Loire take home 45% of the awarded medals.

The competition took place in Loir-et-Cher in the Loire Valley and aims to raise awareness of the wide range of Sauvignon Blanc wines available worldwide.

Wines from the Loire were awarded a total of 105 medals - 35 gold, 68 silver and two trophy awards.

The entries were judged by an panel of international wine experts from 16 different countries, who tasted their way through 807 wines hailing from 20 different countries.

The British panel was represented by wine consultant David Cobbold, Loire specialist Jim Budd and Sauvignon Blanc expert Jamie Goode.

Jamie Goode said: "I was really impressed by the performance of the Loire wines
in the competition. The Loire sets the benchmark for Sauvignon - particularly so now that
quality has improved across the board in recent years. And it's not just the more famous
regions that are excelling - Touraine Sauvignon is really impressive at the moment."
