VIDEO: Future Foundation's Barry Clark on minimum pricing

Proposed regulations around alcohol - such as minimum pricing - are gaining energy, and a greater degree of acceptance with the public, says the Future Foundation's Barry Clark.

Proposed regulations around alcohol - such as minimum pricing - are gaining energy, and a greater degree of acceptance with the public, says the Future Foundation's Barry Clark.

Speaking at last month's Harpers' Consumer Forum, held jointly with WineOption, Clark said that while Scotland was "further along" in introducing minimum pricing, it was "interesting" to note that Scottish Premier Alex Salmond and his UK counterpart David Cameron, were "talking the same language" about curbing binge drinking.

He said such issues not only affect the licensed trade, and that tobacco is a "good illustration" of how quickly restrictions are copied between countries. A number of countries, Ireland among them, are watching how Scotland and the UK will fare with minimum pricing before taking action themselves.

Other speakers at the event, which took place at Corney & Barrow, Paternoster Square, in London, included Simon Bennison from digital marketing agency Alienation Digital; winemaker and consultant Robert Joseph and Ian McCaig of web data analysis firm QuBit.
