Rhone producer Chateau de Saint Cosme has signed an exclusive UK distribution deal with Bibendum.

Chateau de Saint Cosme is the oldest estate in Gigondas with a history dating back to 1416. The current owner Louis Barruol's ancestors bought the estate in 1570.

Bibendum director of buying (northern hemisphere) Stuart Grundy said: "These wines are among the very, very best in the Rhone Valley and we have been overwhelmed by the demand for them from our customers since they appeared at our Annual Tasting in January."

Barruol produces several single-vineyard wines, as well as running a micro-negociant arm making wines from the northern Rhone.

The domaine includes some of the oldest vines in the southern Rhone with several parcels over 100 years old. The vineyards have been farmed organically since the 1970s and biodynamically since January 2010. Barruol does not de-stem the grapes, nor does he filter or fine before bottling.

Bibendum will be importing a Little James Sauvignon Blanc/Viognier 2010 (rrp £8.49), Cotes du Rhone Blanc 2010 (rrp £11.99), Condrieu 2010 (rrp £34.99) among others for its on-trade and independent merchant customers.
