More than 90 wine writers and bloggers from 24 countries took part in a synchronized tasting of five Sud de France wines today at 11am.
The event was organized by Sud de France - the umbrella brand of food and wine products from France's Languedoc-Roussillon region - to celebrate the fourth anniversary of its launch.
The wines were chosen on a 'names out of the hat' basis from an initial selection by Dominique Laporte, Meilleur Sommelier de France (France's Best Sommelier) 2004.
A live video link was set up between the tastings in London, Shanghai and New York and the Languedoc-Roussillon regional government headquarters in Montpellier, where the producers of the wines being tasted gathered, along with press and local dignitaries.
Harpers Wine & Spirit had a front row seat to all the action in London as the UK-based participants entered their tasting notes and comments on a dedicated Sud de France website, as well as on their own blogs, websites, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Wine writers and bloggers taking part in other countries, including from as far afield as Brazil and Mexico, tasted the wines in their own homes or offices.
Sud de France told Harpers the tasting had been a "big success" with "good interaction and a really wide range of wines which offer great value for money".
The organization hopes the initiative will help showcase the diversity of the Sud de France offering, rather than focusing on individual wines.
