Leading Tokaj estate Disznókő joins Hallgarten portfolio

Importer Hallgarten & Novum Wines has revealed that Tokaj producer Disznókő has joined its portfolio, with the winery set to be Hallgarten’s sole Hungarian estate.

Wines from the AXA Millésimes-owned producer, both sweet and dry, will be imported to the UK by Hallgarten. Its sweet Aszú expressions will be available to multiple retailers and the premium on- and off- trades, while its dry Furmint wines are set to be accessible for regional on-trade customers.

Disznókő is a 104ha estate of single block vineyards on south facing slopes of volcanic clay soil. The property’s name translates to ‘boar rock’, a volcanic rock on its lands that resembles a wild boar. It is helmed by MD Mészáros László who “champions sustainable viticulture”, according to Hallgarten.

It was purchased by AXA in 1992, though its history stretches back to 1413. Hallgarten's wine development director Steve Daniel said that since this acquisition “the investment and technical expertise have pushed quality forward for both the estate and the wider region”.

He added that “the estate continues to be a flagbearer for Tokaj, constantly innovating and improving, and I am excited for the wines to receive the exposure they deserve in the UK market”.

MD of AXA Millésimes Christian Seely said: “I am delighted that a new chapter in the development of Disznókő's presence in the UK is beginning with Hallgarten, with whom we have a strong and very successful existing relationship with several of our other wines.”
