Small stores challenge Bargain Booze and Tesco

UK: Independent stores take on the chains

Select and Save, a symbol group, which supply's to independent store owners under its name, has launched a new marketing strategy to challenge the offer from off-licence chain Bargain Booze.

The group is sending out a consumer leaflet every three weeks to all its 140 stores which compares prices with both Tesco and Bargain Booze.

It has now introduced 'better bargains than Bargain Booze' to go with its 'you're better off here than Tesco' message which has been running since 2006.

The symbol group said since launching its Tesco comparison, total volumes increased by 45% and more members have joined.

Select and Save is going head to head with Tesco and Bargain Booze to promote itself as a one-stop shop and the new strategy will run for three weeks from 19 August, our sister website TalkingRetail reports.
