Orders will be taken until 2pm on Christmas Eve for delivery that evening. Delivery to the door will cost a flat fee of 6.99, courtesy of courier service Addison Lee and e-fulfilment company M-Box. Virgin Wines claims that its same-day service is the first major direct to the door' service to be launched since the height of the dot-com boom. The company says that it has taken on board comments from customers from the Christmas 2000 sales period which showed that demand for instant wine' reaches a peak in the run-up to Christmas, for both gifts and personal use.Rowan Gormley, Virgin Wines' CEO, said: We're dreaming of a white Christmas, a red Christmas, a ros Christmas and a sparkling one. This service gives people a way to avoid a last minute punt between unknown wines from a warehouse or supermarket. This is about great wine which is convenient and competitive for people who simply can't wait over Christmas.'
