Published:  23 July, 2008

Islay whisky producer Bruichladdich has announced that it plans to rebuild the Port Charlotte distillery, and make it environmentally friendly.

The distillery will be built two miles from Bruichladdich on the former site of the Lochindaal distillery, which was closed down in 1929. The equipment comes from another closed distillery - Inverleven.

Bruichladdich CEO Mark Reynier said: We have the chance to create a "green" distillery, with a zero carbon footprint by using all the latest environmentally sustainable concepts.'

The new distillery will have a capacity of 1.2 million litres.
