Sherry, regionality and gastronomy will take centre stage when Wines from Spain's annual trade tasting comes to London's Tobacco Dock on March 9.

Heart of Spain's newly released schedule of events reveals a focus on the region's key wine styles, looking at Spain's 'white revolution' as well as sherry, which will be the focus of a masterclass hosted by Beltrán Domecq.

Consisting of eight different wines, the masterclass will take a step by step look at Sherry's evolution from young and vibrant wines into complex, aged wines.

The masterclass comes at a troubling time for sales of fortified wines.

According to figures from the WSTA, sales of fortified wines in the UK have fallen by more than 50% in the last decade, from 82 million bottles sold in 2005, down to 35 million bottles in 2015.

The worst hit has been Vermouth, down from 16 million bottles to less than six million over the decade, followed by Sherry, which fell from 22 million to 10 million.

Port has proved the most resilient, but still recorded a fall in sales from 10 million to eight million, although sales were slightly up year-on-year from 2014.

A lunchtime session will put the focus on Spain's food culture, exploring how Tapas' growing popularity has helped to reinforce the UK as one of Spain's most important export markets.

Born in Madrid and trained by top Spanish chef Ferran Adrià of El Bulli, Tapas Revolution chef Omar Allibhoy will serve up signature dishes alongside a selection of Spanish wines.

64 importers and exporters of Spanish wines will present at Wines from Spain's Annual Tasting at Tobacco Dock, Wapping, on Thursday, March 9.

Around 300 Spanish wineries will present 1200 wines from 10am to 6pm.
