It must have been a sad, sad day for Royal Navy sailors when the last rum ration was issued to them on July 31, 1970.

For 300 years it had been tradition aboard the British Royal Navy ships and from then on the final day was to be forever known as Black Tot Day. Since 1970 when HM Customs & Excise sealed the flagons up, the rum has been stored silently in bonded warehouses. Now, forty years later it has been re-launched under the name Black Tot - The Last Consignment. Presented in a bottle sealed with wax in a black walnut box, it has a certificate of authenticity and comes with a traditional copper and silver tot cup. The only thing that differs since the 1970s, is the rather hefty inflationary rrp of £600. helena@campbell-bell.com
