Martin Willams' M Restaurants raises £900,000 of crowdfunding target in four hours

Published:  03 October, 2016

London restaurant chain M Restaurant has raised over half of its crowdfunding campaign target in under four hours, bringing the total up to £900,000.

The campaign, which opened at 12.01am this morning (October 3), is aiming to raise £1.8m to add a third site - M Social - to its portfolio, due to open in Twickenham in May 2017.

The group also wants to expand the use of some of the current space at the M Threadneedle site and open a private members lounge.

The chain was founded in 2014 by former Gaucho boss Martin Williams with the aim of making aspirational dining accessible.

The company said it is the first 'high end' restaurant in the UK to use crowdfunding to finance its plans, and will accept investments as little as £200 through the Seedr website.

The Twickenham site will be a flexible 100-cover space in a Butlers Wharf style building that has riverside views, an outside terrace and sits directly opposite the mainline station.

M Social will look to have two sites, and the venues will be more casual, offering lower price points outside of central London.

Additionally, some of the funds will be used to expand the Threadneedle Street location and use the downstairs space which is currently used as a coat check and has room for private dining.

Here, M Restaurants plans to replicate the look and feel of the M Den private members lounge, which has been hugely successful at its M Victoria location.
