Discount supermarket Aldi is adding 25 limited edition, premium wines to its range in stores and online as part of the inaugural Aldi Wine Festival.

The new wines have been sourced from fourteen countries and five continents and will be available in store from August 21.

The eclectic collection is priced from £4.99 to £8.99 and includes wines from Nero d'Avola from Sicily in Italy, Pinot Gris from Gisborne in New Zealand and Riesling from Baden in Germany.

The Aldi Wine Festival includes partnerships with top producers, including one of South America's top biodynamic wineries.

The Chilean Amigo Secreto Syrah-Carignan, £6.99 is made from organic grapes grown without pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or artificial fertilisers in a bid to tap into the emerging UK trend for organic wines.

Aldi, the UK's sixth largest supermarket, has also teamed up with Hungarian wine maker Karoly Ats, adding a dry Furmint from the Tokaji region to the collection to retail at £5.99.

Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying, said the festival continues Aldi's philosophy of making "quality wine accessible to all", adding: "Our core range is growing in popularity day by day. We constantly aim to excite and exceed our customers' expectations and are delighted to be introducing shoppers to 25 new, exceptional wines from the world's greatest winemaking regions this summer.

"Our talented team of expert wine buyers have curated a range that embodies innovation, quality and outstanding value for money."

The Aldi Wine Festival builds on a strong year for Aldi, following on the launch of the discounter's online wine buying service in February.

This allowed the retailer to expand its range from 80 to over 120 wines.

According to the discounter, Aldi has grown its share of the wine category and increased sales by 7% in the past 12 months.
