Matthew Clark 2016 tasting details announced

Published:  02 February, 2016

Leading on-trade distributor Matthew Clark has announced the details of its annual tasting, to be held at London's Tobacco Dock on March 8.

The event, named Discover Love Inspire 2016, promises over 500 wines from Matthew Clark's growing portfolio, including over 180 premium wines new to the list.

With consumer preferences trending towards Old World quality, Matthew Clark has inked partnerships with a number of new wineries in recent months, including Spain's Casa Rojo, Chianti producer Vicchiomaggio, Burgundy's Remoissenet Père & Fils, Dauvergne Ranvier from the Côte du Rhône, and leading grower Champagne house, Champagne Doyard.

Attendance at last year's tasting was up 39% on 2014, and the distributor is hoping to see yet more new visitors in 2016.

The event will also include a range of masterclasses.

Damien Le Sueurthe, managing director of Champagne Taittinger, will explore current and future vintages of his cuvée in the first seminar of its kind to be held outside of France.

Jesús Madrazo, head winemaker at Contino, will offer visitors the opportunity to blend their own Rioja Reserva, and George Sandeman will be guiding them through a selection of old Tawny Port.

Elsewhere, Laure Colombo, winemaker at Domaine Jean Luc Colombo, Thibault Gagey, the deputy general manager for Domaine Louis Jadot, and Vitalie Taittinger, marketing director at Champagne Taittinger, will be discussing what the future holds in store for their wineries.

Simon Jerrome, wine purchasing director at Matthew Clark, said: "Last year saw many positive changes for Matthew Clark as a business and wine distributor. With so many new premium producers joining our range over the past twelve months, exciting times lie ahead.

"Our team has meticulously put together a must attend event that is carefully tailored to our customers' varied interests.

"Whether it's advice on developing commercially successful wine lists, ideas for revamping old menus or tips on pairing wines to foods of all cuisines, there really will be something for everyone.

"Add in the opportunities to meet top producers and explore new varieties, styles and regions, and you have all the ingredients for a day to remember."
