Gordon's, the UK's biggest selling gin brand, is launching a new TV ad featuring a boar this evening, as part of a £2 million marketing spend.

Gordon the boarGordon the boar features in the latest ad for DIageo-owned gin brand Gordon's

The Diageo-owned brand is still focused on 'It's got to be Gordon's' message and says the ad will reach over 78% of its target audience in the coming six months.

The 60-second ad will air during the James Bond film Skyfall on ITV1,  and brings to life 'Gordon the Boar', based on the boar's head which has been embossed on the Gordon's gin bottle since it launched in 1769. According to legend, a boar's head was awarded to the Gordon's family to bear on their crest by a prince who was saved by a member of the Gordon family from an altercation with a boar.

In the advert, Gordon the Boar dances round an apartment space, cementing Gordon's - lending a "modern feel" to the brand.

Aside from the TV ad there will be a four-minute YouTube film on the heritage of Gordon's Gin and the history of Gordon the Boar himself. Gordon the Boar will also have his own Twitter handle (@gordontheboar).

Louise McKerrow, marketing director for Gordon's Western Europe, said: "Gordon's is the nation's favourite gin, and with the TVC and supporting activity we have created, we hope to turn Gordon the Boar into a favourite character and cement Gordon's place in modern British culture. We expect 2015 to be an incredibly exciting year for Gordon's, with lots more news on the brand to come."
