Natural Wine Fair kicks of this Sunday

Published:  12 May, 2011

In a bid to get natural wines out there for everyone to taste, Isabelle Legeron MW and five natural wine importers are running the first Natural Wine Fair from May 15-17.

A total of 120 growers will be coming over to the UK to show 500 of their wines to consumers and the trade.

The fair is being held at Borough Market, one of London's foodie hotspots, and is open to the general public this Sunday, May 15, 10am-6pm. Tickets cost £18 and include a catalogue and a tasting glass to keep. The trade is invited to attend on Monday, May 16, 10am-7pm and Tuesday, May 16, 10am-6pm.

A series of talks by keynote speakers in the natural wine field will also be taking place - for more information visit thenaturalwinefair.com. Highlights include a talk called Selling Natural wine in the On-Trade (Monday, 3pm) with speakers Doug Wregg from Les Caves de Pyrene, Gerard Basset MW MS from TerraVina, Hibiscus Restaurant's Romain Henry and Xavier Rousset from Texture and 28-50.

The fair co-incides with Natural Wine Fortnight (May 9-22). Restaurants, bars and pubs signed up to the promotional fortnight will be carrying at least one red and one white natural wine by the glass in an effort to encourage consumers to try the wines, which are made without the use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyard and few, if any, additives in the cellar.
