Asda's McKeon moves to Netto

Published:  01 February, 2011

Asda's BWS boss Adrian McKeon has moved to discount supermarket chain Netto after one year heading up the category.

Asda bought the 147-strong discount chain last year and is in the process of rebranding Netto stores under the Asda banner.

McKeon will be fully independent from his Asda colleagues until the deal is completed, operating as integration trading director and reporting to Netto's UK head William Smith. A spokeswoman said McKeon will play a "key role in supporting the Netto team throughout the transition period".

Once the Netto chain has been fully absorbed, McKeon will operate as trading director at Netto.

The spokeswoman added: "This is a great move for Ade and his extensive trading experience as well as the significant contribution he has made to Asda in the last last 12 months will be a real asset to driving the Netto trading proposition forward."

Following McKeon's departure, the BWS team at Asda will report to Barry Williams, commercial director of the grocery sector.

In order to obtain regulatory clearance to buy Netto, Asda has recently agreed to sell 47 of the Netto stores to rivals Morrisons, Iceland and Haldanes.
