Cavit turns to screwcap for its SanVigilio range

Leading Trentino producer Cavit has turned to screwcap closures for its SanVigilio range.

Leading Trentino producer Cavit has turned to screwcap closures for its SanVigilio range.

Aimed at both the on- and off-trade, the first of the SanVigilio wines to be sealed under twist caps are the Pinot Grigio and Pinot Grigio blush, which will be followed by chardonnay and merlot.

The advantage of stelvin closures is that bottles can leak through corks and the wine will stay preserved for longer, allowing wines to age for longer, says the producer.

Screwcap closures are already used for three wines in Cavit's on-trade, in the Brume di Monte range - chardonnay, pinot grigio and teroldego.

Claudio Gambarotto, Cavit's export manager said: "We've introduced screwcaps to certain of our ranges in response to increasing demand from countries such as the UK for an alternative closure to the traditional cork one.

"Our export markets represent a significant part of Cavit's business, so it's important to us to respond promptly to their requirements."

Cavit represents more than 4,500 growers and in excess of 5,700 hectares of vineyards.

Via its growers, Cavit handles approximately 65% of the total wine production in Trentino.
