South Africa’s Bosman Family Vineyards has bolstered its sales capacity in the European and African markets with with two senior appointments.

Christian Gilbert has been appointed a director of Bosman Wine UK, responsible for growing UK and European sales.

An established drinks consultant with close ties to both the UK market and the South African wine industry, Gilbert will work alongside Bosman’s longstanding business development manager Lucy Warner, to develop sales in both the off and on-trade in the UK, said Bosman Family Vineyards.

Meanwhile Anthony Van Schalkwyk, previously of Kleine Zalze, has joined the team heading up the international and domestic sales force.

With their "extensive international experience and long-standing relationships in the industry", Bosman Family Vineyards said it felt sure the duo would "make a tangible impact" together with Warner on serving its customers.

“Over the years we have gained great momentum internationally, of which the UK is a strategically important market for us. We are therefore delighted to have the calibre of both Anthony van Schalkwyk and, more recently, Christian Gilbert on board to drive sales," said owner and MD Petrus Bosman.

In the UK, Bosman wines are available in the multiple retailers and independent off-trade under the Bosman, Adama, Generation VIII and organic Nature and Sun ranges, while the Bosman estate wines are available for the UK on-trade.

Bosman Family Vineyards, which is longstanding suppliers of Fairtrade via both own brand and customer own-label ranges, said it is also gearing up to unveil an “exciting new project” into the UK off-trade later this month, which it claimed would mark a first for the South African wine industry.
