The Wine Society teams up with Johnston Logistics

Published:  08 January, 2019

The Wine Society has hired Johnston Logistics to bolster its storage and distribution operations as its membership numbers continue to grow.

The online retailer, which stocks over 1,500 wines, says “continued growth in membership” meant it needed to increase its existing warehousing and logistics operations.

“We’re delighted to have Johnston Logistics UK working with us to help deliver our delicious wines” said Tim Grist, head of operations for The Wine Society. “They have a strong reputation and impressive client list, that gives us confidence they can deliver our logistics and ensure our products reach customers in perfect condition.”

Johnston Logistics UK, a family business since 1978, imports, stores and distributes over 20,000 pallets of alcoholic drinks every year, for clients including independent producers and major supermarkets.

“We’re very excited to welcome The Wine Society” says Rob McIndoe, director of Johnston Logistics UK. “They have an obvious talent for identifying quality wines which their growing membership values highly.

“We are delighted they identified our skills and experience as a prime reason to entrust us with handling their products with the care they deserve. Their exciting new wine discoveries are a very welcomed addition to our bonded warehouse.”

As well as wine and alcohol, Johnston Logistics UK says it provides a “full range of third-party logistics for companies across retail, food, drink, manufacturing and wholesale”. From its 130-acre site in Norfolk it receives, stores and distribute goods across the UK, Europe and the World. It handles over one million transactions every year.

The Wine Society, which is solely owned by its members, dates back to the Great Exhibition in 1874 and says its “mission is to champion the joy of good wine”. It was recently awarded Outstanding Wine Retailer of the Year 2018 and Wine Club of the Year 2018.
