Broadland Wineries opens flexible bottling line

Published:  22 April, 2014

Broadland Wineries has opened a new bottling line in a bid to offer customers greater flexibility with smaller orders, bottle sizes and formats.

The new line represents a "sizable investment" in the firm's Cawston plant and is part of an ongoing investment programme by Broadland Wineries.

It was officially opened by Keith Simpson, MP for Broadland, last week.

The new line can deliver 18.7cl, 25cl, 37.5cl, 50cl, 1 litre and 1.5 litre bottles in glass and PET formats. It can also manage much smaller batch sizes allowing customers to split bulk wine tankers into multiple formats and minimise stock-holdings and risks. The new line is also able to seal bottles with a fully recyclable Novatwist cap - the first in the UK to offer this option.

The initial focus of the new line is 18.7cl bottles, which is growing faster by volume that its 75cl equivalent. Broadland says the smaller batch size means that customers will be able to order in 2,000 litre batches.

Keith Simpson MP for Broadland said: "I was very impressed to see the new bottling line and it was a privilege to open it. Broadland Wineries are going from strength to strength and play an important role in the local community and employment."

Mark Lansley, chief executive of Broadland Wineries added: "Our new bottling line represents a significant investment in Broadland's infrastructure and is a major commitment by our company to meet the changing needs of our customers".

Broadland was established in 1965, and acquired by the current management team in 2006. It employs 116 people and supplies national major multiple retailers such as Aldi, ASDA, Booker, Co-operative and Sainsbury's, as well as a number of smaller regional retailers and wholesalers.
