Vintners' Company raises £46k for The Benevolent

Published:  14 June, 2013

The Vintners' Company has raised £46,000 for the drinks trade charity The Benevolent with its March for Mobility through the vineyards of Burgundy.

The march, which took place earlier this month, saw members of the Vintners' Company embark on a 20km walk through Chassagne-Montrachet, taking in Meursault, Volnay and Pommard, as they headed towards Beaune.

Funds raised will be used to provide mobility aids, such as electric wheelchairs and stairlifts, to members of the trade who desperately need them.

Anthony Sykes, upper warden of the Vintners' Company, said: "The Vintners' Company was delighted to be able to support The Benevolent in this way and to make our second major contribution to the charity this year. We were also very pleased that the chairman and chief executive of The Benevolent plus a number of The Benevolent team were able to join us in raising funds for such a worthwhile cause."

David Cox, chief executive of The Benevolent, said: "We are indebted to the Vintners' Company for supporting us in this way and this wonderful initiative will be immensely appreciated by our beneficiaries that require mobility assistance."
