Six UK wine industry companies have made it into this year's Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200, with the Asian market figuring strongly.
The International Track is a league table that ranks Britain's mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales. Those that made it into the table include: Corney & Barrow (ranked at 54), due to its growing interest in selling wine in Asia via its Hong Kong office, as well as an annual international sales growth of 62.95% and turnover of £15.3 million in international sales.
Asian sales have also helped Farr Vintners, which is ranked at 75, with an international sales growth of 52.10%. Liv-ex, the company that produces the inside guide to the global fine wine market for brokers, merchants and investors, stands at number 78 in the league table, after experiencing a 49.14% sales uplift.
Fine wine brokers Fine + Rare are ranked at 98, and merchant Bordeaux Index sits at 123, with retailer Direct Wines at 146 - which has recently started selling wine to India.
Antony Maxwell, director at Liv-ex, said: "It just shows how London is at the forefront of the international wine trade and well done to the other five companies who have also made into the league. For Liv-ex it's been 12 years of working hard to build a solid foundation and increase our prescence in the international market, helping the brand become synonomous with fine wine trading and grow in credibility."
Oliver Hartley, sales director at Corney & Barrow, said: "Since establishing a permanent base in Hong Kong we have experienced strong growth in the region generally. We plan to build on this over the coming years with a further presence in Singapore. Corney & Barrow intends to maintain a strong presence in the exciting Asian market for the foreseeable future."
