Asda adds English wines for Jubilee

Published:  15 May, 2012

Asda has added two English wines to its collection to bolster its English wine selection around the Jubilee.

The wines are Three Choirs Regalia 2011, Gloucestershire (rrp £7.30), which has been made exclusively for Asda, and Chapel Down Vintage Reserve Brut (rrp £15), which has been added for a limited period only.

It is the first time in several years English wine has been added to its range, even though it was the first multiple retailer to stock English wine in the 1990s.

Three Choirs Regalia 2011 is the result of a close collaboration between Three Choirs winemaker Martin Fowke, Asda wine selector Katie Thompson and Asda's MW, Philippa Carr.

It will be available from May 28 (on rollback to £6 from May 29 to June 23), and is made from a blend of Madeleine Angevine, Phoenix, Schonberger, Siegerrebe and Seyval Blanc grapes, all grown and hand-picked in Three Choirs' 30ha vineyard in Gloucestershire.

Chapel Down Vintage Reserve Brut is to be added to its range from May 29 to June 23.

Thompson said: "We are delighted to be working with Three Choirs as this lovely English wine offers our customers something new and exciting to try. With such a focus on all things British this year, we can't wait to join in all the celebrations with a glass of Chapel Down Vintage Reserve Brut and a sip or two of our exclusive Three Choirs Regalia."
