The Government has been urged by The Portman Group to tackle binge drinking with mass-media campaigns, funded on a par with the anti-drink drive message. The call from the industry-funded campaign group is one of 35 recommendations made last week in response to the Government's consultation on alcohol harm reduction. The message on drink-driving has achieved a massive turnaround in behaviour, because it has delivered consistently over 25 years, backed up by law enforcement and enough money to get noticed,' said Jean Coussins, director of The Portman Group. Other recommendations include: alcohol misuse training for doctors and nurses; unit information on all products; responsibility messages on brand advertising; and responsible server training provided in licensed premises.
