Late hours confirmed for Royal Wedding

Published:  12 January, 2011

The Home Office has laid out plans for on-trade outlets to be allowed extended opening hours and live entertainment on the weekend of the Royal Wedding.

Licence holders would normally have to apply to the local council for a Temporary Event Notice at a cost of £21 if they wish to extend their permitted opening hours and put on entertainment if not already allowed to do so.

The government is proposing to make a special order under the terms of the Licensing Act 2003 to extend opening hours on April 29 and 30 between 11pm and 1am.

Crime prevention minister James Brokenshire said: "The Royal Wedding is a time of national celebration and we want everyone to be able to participate.

"We recognise that many people may want to extend their festivities."

A consultation on the plans will run until January 26.
