Chile Summit kicks off
Published: 22 November, 2010
Harpers Chile Summit has kicked off with an off-trade debate ? buyers from Tesco and Sainsbury's will be addressing delegates along with independent retailers and producers.
Issues on the agenda include varietals, price points, premiumisation, consumer education and where Chile sits in the New World/South American category.
This afternoon an on-trade debate will include Hakkasan's group wine buyer Christine Parkinson and the Cinammon Club's sommelier Laurant Chaniac. They will look at where Chile sits on a wine list, the right varietals for the on-trade, opportunities for premium listings and consumer education will all be addressed.
Trading issues such as currency and distribution will also be up for debate throughout the day at London's Soho Hotel.
Masters of Wine Peter McCombie and Peter Richards will be sharing their expertise on Chilean wine in a series of exclusive masterclasses later on today.
McCombie will challenge perceptions of Chilean wine and show how better sourcing makes it easier to upsell to customers with wines that express the excellence of its winemaking. Richards' masterclass will address diversity within Chile.
