Harrods to open new wine department

Published:  30 September, 2010

Harrods is to open a new wine department that will house a series of wine discovery areas including an 'aroma zone', tasting room and bar.

The Wine Shop, which opens in November, will occupy 7,000 square feet and is aimed at creating an unrivalled environment in which to experience and purchase wine.

As part of the expansion it will also offer an increased and diverse range of over 3,000 selected wines, beers and spirits displayed by type in dedicated areas including Champagne and spirits rooms and new wine vault.

The wine vault will be aimed at true connoisseurs and will offer a rotating selection of rare and ancient releases such as vertical selections of many of the world's most sought-after wines.

The department will focus on lifestyle, education, wine tastings and events and masterclasses.

Alistair Viner, Harrods head wine buyer, said: "With unsurpassed levels of service, world-first interactive technology and an exclusive collection of wines, we believe we have created the ultimate destination for shoppers of all tastes and levels to experience the world of wine and spirits. Our aim with the new Wine Shop is to share our passion for wine, to demystify, educate and make wine accessible to all."
