Romanian wine is being stocked at Oddbins once again following a 10-year hiatus ? prompting claims that the country's wines are undergoing a UK revival.
Cramele Recas winery has secured a national listing in Oddbins for its Frunza Pinot Grigio, which is from the Banat region in Western Romania.
Philip Cox, managing director of Cramele Recas, said: "We've invested heavily in new vineyard plantings and technology over the last ten years and the quality is now showing through. The new listing in Oddbins is a major breakthrough as far as distribution in the UK is concerned and we hope that this news will have a positive impact on other Romanian producers looking to break into this market."
Oddbins buyer Ana Sapungiu said: "There has been a vast improvement in the quality of Romanian wines in the past decade and the Frunza Pinot Grigio represents an excellent price-quality ratio. We are also looking at some of Romania's indigenous varietals which we feel could appeal to our wine-savvy customers."
The Frunza Pinot Grigio 2009 will be available at Oddbins from September with an rrp of £5.99.
