The Bordeaux Wine Council has elected Georges Haushalter as its new president.
Haushalter has been general manager of the Compagnie Medocaine des Grands Crus wine merchant house in Blanquefort since 2002.
He will head up the CIVB for a three year term and succeeds wine grower Alain Vironneau.
Haushalter was formerly president of the Union des Maisons de Bordeaux (union of Bordeaux wine houses) and the Bordeaux Wine Merchants' Association. He has also chaired the CIVB Marketing Commission.
The CIVB said Haushalter will work with the French Federation of Farmers' Unions, the Young Farmers, the Chamber of Agriculture, French government departments and numerous specialists from France and abroad in an effort to address the challenges faced by the Bordeaux wine industry due to the global economic crisis.
