Beaujolais shall be released early

Published:  23 July, 2008

Move to avoid Armistice Day

Part loads of Beaujolais Nouveau can be picked up on Thursday 9 November this year, a day earlier than usual. The change comes following moves by the Wine & Spirit Association's Freight Forwarders' Group, which noticed that 11 November is Armistice Day and a French national holiday, which might result in restrictions on movement and pick-ups that day. The Union Interprofessionnelle des Vins du Beaujolais (UIVB) and the Direction Rgionale de la Concurrence de la Consommation et de la Rpression des Fraudes (DRCCRF) authorised that part loads of Beaujolais can start to be picked up any time after 10pm on the second Thursday. For small shipments and groupage, a specific derogation will apply allowing the collection of parcels from Wednesday 8 November (1am). The transporter or shipper must request this authorisation by fax, to the DDCCRF in Lyon (00 33 4 78 3838 07). UK importers will be allowed to take delivery direct subject to an undertaking that the sale will not take place until after midnight on 16 November. Also, any importer, trader or retailer found not adhering to this undertaking will be prohibited from obtaining future supplies, warns the WSA. Suppliers involved will not be allowed to participate in the export of Beaujolais Nouveau in future years.
