The sudden death of well known industry figure Peter Williamson, chairman of Inspirit Brands, has come as a shock to friends and colleagues at the London International Wine Fair.

It is thought Peter Williamson, 59, known as Slim to his friends and colleagues, died on Sunday while playing cricket.

Williamson spent 18 years as sales director for Paragon Vintners and left exactly a year ago over differences in opinion with major shareholder WorldBrands about the future of Paragon.

He joined Inspirit Brands in October 2008, as chairman of the company.

Williamson leaves behind his wife Carol and three children.

A close friend and colleague told Harpers: " Slim Williamson was one of the greatest characters in the trade and a super salesman, with a tremendous sense of humour.

"All who worked with him will miss him greatly, he was very well known to everyone who knew him.

"He was due to be at the wine fair this week, and people are really shocked and saddened to hear the news.

"I'm sure many will agree that he was one of the nicest men in the trade."
