Drinkaware UK expands its team

Published:  05 May, 2009

Drinkaware, the UK charity which aims to reduce alcohol is expanding their team in order to help the organisation spread the message about responsible drinking.

Siobhan McCann joins as communications manager from the recently merged Age Concern and Help the Aged and will be heading up the communications division at Drinkaware, ensuring consumers across the country have the information they need to make informed decisions about drinking alcohol, she will also raise visibility of the charity's work targeting key audiences about the risks of alcohol misuse.

McCann said: "I'm delighted to be joining Drinkaware at such an exciting time for the charity.

"My role at Drinkaware will also tap into the public consciousness, encouraging people to change their drinking patterns and behaviour. The trick will be to target key audiences and age groups in a supportive and non-lecturing way. I'm looking forward to working with all our stakeholders to achieve this goal."

Eleanor McDonald also joins the charity and will take on the role of adult strategy manager. Having previously worked at Keep Britain Tidy and, more recently, Parentline Plus, McDonald's brief at Drinkaware is to develop campaigns that engage the 25+ audiences, informing and educating consumers about the proper use of alcohol and recommended guidelines.

McDonald said: "With over seven million adults in the UK drinking above the recommended guidelines, the challenge is to come up with campaigns that communicate with people in a way that is engaging but also pitched at the right level."

Completing the list of new announcements for the organisation, Drinkaware has also appointed Frank PR and Enable Interactive to handle a £1million PR and digital brief, following a joint pitch by the two agencies. The agencies will support the in-house teams to position the charity as the consumer's trusted source when it comes to advice and information about the responsible use of alcohol. Frank PR and Enable Interactive will report into Avis Johns, Drinkaware director of external affairs.
