Pam Dunsford, CEO and chief winemaker of McLaren Vale's Chapel Hill Winery, has confirmed the appointment of Hazel Murphy as European consultant and director of Chapel Hill Winery Pty Ltd. Murphy has been CEO of the Australian Wine Bureau for 17 years and is widely credited with masterminding the growth of Australian wines in the UK. In that time, Australia's wine exports grew from the 85,000 cases shipped to the UK in 1985 to some 20 million cases today. Murphy, who will take up her new role fully in February 2003, said, This is a wonderful opportunity for me, not only to work with a winery and winemaker I respect enormously, but I am also excited about the McLaren Vale region and its great potential. Chapel Hill has a deserved quality image and a good profile in the markets where it is sold. I hope to contribute by increasing that profile and opening up markets that are as yet undeveloped.' Chapel Hill Winery is owned by the Swiss family of Thomas Schmidheiny who also own Cuvaison Winery in California and vineyards in Argentina and Switzerland. Chapel Hill currently exports 40% of its production to the UK, Switzerland, Germany, the US, Hong Kong, Canada and Singapore.
