Stevens Garnier founder retires

Alastair Stevens, the founder of independent wine shippers Stevens Garnier Limited, is to retire from his role as chief executive after 32 years.

Alastair Stevens, the founder of independent wine shippers Stevens Garnier Limited, is to retire from his role as chief executive after 32 years.

Stevens is credited for his pioneering work in South America and for forging a relationship with Sogrape of Portugal, Portugal's biggest winemaker, which owns a 20% stake in the company.

Stevens leaves his position at the end of the month and plans to go travelling. He will retain his shareholding and remain a non executive chairman.

Stevens founded Stevens Garnier Limited in 1976 along with managing director, Jane Cranston. The company works with suppliers from all over the world including Australia, Argentina and Chile.
