Brown-Forman sees sales arrangements end

Published:  23 July, 2008

Brown-Forman's sales and marketing agreements with drinks companies Wray & Nephew and Distell have ended.

The company said the decision to terminate both six-year marketing relationships with the respective companies was unrelated.

US firm Wray & Nephew utilised Brown-Forman to market and sell its Appleton, Wray & Nephew, and Coruba label rums since October 2001.

Under the Distell arrangement, Brown-Forman marketed and sold Amarula cream liqueur and Durbanville Hills wines in the US and the Caribbean, and Durbanville Hills wines in the UK.

Amarula and Durbanville Hills wines will be distributed in the US by A.V Brands as of March 1 2008.

Paul Varga, Brown-Forman chief executive, said: "We are proud of the growth of the Appleton rum brands under Brown-Forman's stewardship and of our accomplishments on Amarula cream liqueur over the last six years. We feel that each of the brands is stronger today then when we began our work, and also believe they are positioned well for further development."
