UK: A Liberal Democrat Dem MP has called for cigarette-style health warnings to be printed on all drinks labels.
Bob Russell has tabled an early day motion (EDM) - signed by 15 MPs to date - in support of calls from the Salvation Army and Methodist Church. The MP for Colchester, in Essex, also called for drinks producers to contribute to the cost of running recovery clinics for alcoholics.
The EDM calls for the Government to "introduce legislation requiring the drinks industry to print cigarette-style health warnings on all products and advertisements, together with advice relating to weekly alcohol intake for men and women."
The motion also says "the drinks industry should take more responsibility for the harm alcohol causes, by contributing to the costs of prevention and treatment of problem drinking".
