An independent wine merchant has started paying customers to reuse the plastic carrier bags issued by its shops.
World of Wines, which has three stores in West Sussex, will give customers 10 pence for every plastic bag they reuse.
The company said as well as being environmentally friendly it would also save money as each bag costs 9p.
Clive Roberts, owner of World of Wines, said: "We wanted to do something positive in our own small way to help the environment so we came up with this idea."
He added: "I know it's not much in the grand scheme of things but we also wanted to show that if businesses think creatively about how they work, how they manage both large and small things, we can all have a positive effect- no matter how small; they all add up."
