Stellenbosch leaves Caxton

Published:  23 July, 2008

Stellenbosch Farmers' Winery (SFW) and Caxton Wines are to part company as from the beginning of October.

The distribution agreement in the UK will end on 2 October (after eight years) and the SFW agency will pass to Heyman Barwell & Jones. "Our partnership with Caxton Wines has been a long and constructive one, but Caxton's current strategic emphasis on multiple grocers contrasts with our strength in the independents and wholesalers. We believe that Heyman Barwell & Jones will be better placed to give our brands the level of independent sector focus that we require," said Richard Coleshaw, international director of SFW. "It has been an amicable decision. Our fast growing consumer brand Long Mountain competes with the SFW range. We are happy to help Heyman Barwell & Jones take over the marketing and distribution of the SFW range", said Noel Reidy Caxton's general manager. "It is a terrific opportunity. Nederburg is a leading brand in many markets and the plan will be to give Nederburg a premium position in the UK," said Peter Beamish, managing director of Heyman, Barwell & Jones.
