FRAUD TRIAL IN BORDEAUX

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Institut National des Appellations d'Origine (INAO) and five major Bordeaux ngociants CVBG, Cordier/Mestrzat, Dulong, Ginestet and GVG have brought a case for fraud relating to 400,000 bottles of branded wine. Jacques Hemmer, a commercial agent, is accused of passing off wines from the Midi as AC Bordeaux and Mdoc in 1997 and '98, though no crime was suspected until much later. The case has been adjourned until 18 February 2002.
