Scientists crack Pinot Noir genetic code

FRANCE: The break-through could lead to improved pest resistance and new wine flavours.

The researchers found the grapes could be modified to combat mildew and other pests, allowing the grapes to to defend themselves.

But Weissenbach warned winemakers: "We may create an increase in variety in terms of flavours, but in terms of quality that might be a different story."
