Review of Australia's wine sector

Published:  23 July, 2008

A review of the Australian wine industry bodies comes hot on the heels of the country's new wine strategy - Directions 2025.

The review will look at the functions of the Winemakers' Federation of Australia (WFA), Wine Grape Growers' Australia (WGGA), the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC) and the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC).

WFA president and chairman of the review taskforce, David Clarke AO, called for the industry to work together more fully.

He said: "Our inter-organisational structures need to capitalise on the strong collaborative culture that exists in Australian wine, and at the same time they need to adapt to the very clear challenges confronting our sector."

A consultation paper will be released in September 2007 with its final recommendations published in November.
