Financial Wines, the web-based fine wine information provider, has launched a new Market Analysis and Report service, updated monthly. As well as offering price-tracking regional reports, the new service ranks UK merchants by price and range of wines. The ranking is based on a comparison of a merchant's current price for a wine against the average quoted price, with average scores per region weighted by the size of the stock list to produce an overall points score per merchant. Managing director Phil Gearing said: The system is designed to provide absolute price transparency, so buyers can establish immediately which merchants are the most price competitive.' As well as an overall ranking' (Farr Vintners came top in September), there are league tables for the top ten fine wine regions': Bordeaux (headed by Bordeaux Index), Burgundy (Farr), Rhne (Farr), Alsace (Seckford Wines), Champagne (Morgan Classic Wines), Vintage Port (Wilkinson Vintners), Italy (Farr), Spain (Berry Bros & Rudd), US (Farr) and Australia (Farr).
