Mike Paul takes Wine Intelligence role

Published:  23 July, 2008

Wine Intelligence has appointed former Western Wines MD Mike Paul as executive chairman of the company.

Paul has been charged with leading the executive team, developing the business and providing consultancy services to existing Wine Intelligence clients.

He brings an impressive range of experience to the role, having spent a decade as managing director of Southcorp Europe before joining Western Wines, creator of South African brand leader Kumala. He has also been involved in a variety of wine industry bodies, such as Wines of South Africa, Wine Australia, the Wine Trade Action Group and, more recently, Match Consultancy (the new recruitment company for the trade).

Paul said: 'I am very pleased to be joining Wine Intelligence. The company is dedicated to addressing some of the issues that have been close to my heart for some time: namely how to understand consumer needs and then use that information to create winning products.

'Successful businesses in the 21st century will be the ones that use market insight most effectively, and I am looking forward to helping Wine Intelligence's clients meet this challenge.'

Lulie Halstead, chief executive of Wine Intelligence, added: 'This is another big step forward for our company, and one we intend to maximise for the benefit of our business and our clients. We're honoured that Mike has chosen us for the next stage of his stellar career.'
