PHILLIP JOHN LEAVES SOUTHCORP

Published:  23 July, 2008

Phillip John, Southcorp Wines' distinguished group white winemaker, has left the company after more than 20 years' service. John is the latest high-profile departure from Southcorp, as what one source describes as a purge of winemaking staff by the company's Rosemount-dominated executive' continues. John joined Lindemans in April 1981 as a senior winemaker, becoming chief winemaker in 1985. He was best known as the architect of Bin 65, Lindemans' successful Chardonnay brand. He was Bin 65,' said Australian winemaker, Max Allen. That's why his departure is so surprising. You couldn't think of a more corporate animal.' Philip Shaw, company winemaker, commented: Phillip is looking forward to making a contribution to the wider industry, and we wish him well.' *Southcorp is closing its Lindemans/Rouge Homme cellar door sales facility in Coonawarra.
