Foster's to sell off wineries

Published:  23 July, 2008

Two Australian wineries and one French facility will be sold by the Foster's Group as it consolidates its winemaking sites.

Rosemount Denman in the Upper Hunter Valley, Seppetsfield in the Barossa, and Domaine La Motte in Languedoc-Roussillon will be put up for sale in the next few months.

The company, which bought Southcorp last year, will also sell part of Penfolds Nuriootpa in the Barossa, although it intends to carry on producing the majority of Penfolds' red wines there, including Grange, RWT, Bin 707 and St Henri.

The company said that the sales were part of a focus on improving quality, efficiency, and safety and key regional sites'. MD Jamie Odell added: Over the past 12 months, we have transformed Foster's into one of the world's leading premium wine producers. The sale of these facilities will allow to consolidate winemaking at our most technologically advanced, flexible and efficient facilities.'

Cellar door operations will remain for each brand at Nuriootpa and Magill Estate (Penfolds), McLaren Vale (Rosemount), and Great Western (Seppelt).
