New consumer show for 2006

Published:  23 July, 2008

A South African events company is launching a new three-day consumer food and drink show at London's ExCeL centre in June 2006.

Organiser Expo International (which was responsible for organising Cape Wine 2000), is aiming for the drinks part of The World Festival of Food and Drink to take up between 40 and 50% of the floor space'. According to chief executive Glen Hawes, wine will probably constitute the bulk of that, although beer, spirits and other drinks will also be represented'. Around 40,000 visitors are expected over the three days (23-26 June).

Hawes added: We've done a full feasibility study on this, and we found a gap for an international-standard food and drink show in the London area. There is the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham, but I think there is real potential to be exploited in the London area. There are 12 million consumers living within an hour's drive of ExCeL.'

Wine suppliers will be grouped by country of origin whenever possible. Although if an importer wants all the wines on the same stand, then we will allow that,' said Hawes.

The marketing campaign for the event will be handled by Splash Promotions, which is planing an extensive' media campaign. Exhibitor bookings are being handled by Eventis.

Hawes said that the event has already attracted some interest

- We are talking to Diageo about doing something special with them in the spirits section, for example.'
