Roussillon targets Scotland

Published:  23 July, 2008

Roussillon has set its sights on the Scottish market, holding its
biggest UK trade tasting this year in Edinburgh.

Eric Aracil, export director of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Roussillon (CIVR), said that the region hopes to repeat the success it has had in Ireland following a major tasting in Dublin two years ago. The Dublin tasting was a big success, and 60% of the producers that exhibited there went on to find an Irish importer,' he told Harpers. The Irish market was quite small for us, but since the tasting it has increased significantly.

This event is about testing the Scottish market to see if we can get similar results here.'

The French Embassy is also working hard at increasing sales of French wines to Scotland. Pierre-Antoine Berniard, consul gnral of France in Scotland, and Stphane Sallmard, president of the Franco-Scottish Business Club, have invited Scottish wine merchants and specialist retailers to a Festival of French Wines at the French Institute (13 Randolph Crescent) on 25 October.
