Red Squirrel expands team into Scotland

Published:  14 December, 2018

Red Squirrel has grown its team north of the border with the appointment of a Scottish based account manager.

The specialist importer, based in London since 2012, has appointed Christina McDiarmid to the newly created position, which marks Red Squirrel's first team member in Scotland.

Taking on her new role in January 2019, McDiarmid joins Red Squirrel from Luvians in St Andrews, with previous experience in the Bon Vivant's Companion, Villeneuve Wines and Champany Inn.

In taking on its first team member in Scotland, Red Squirrel said it was both responding to existing and expanding demand for its wines as well as recognising the "huge and growing opportunities across the country, whether in its major cities or further afield".

"Scotland has always been a country we have wanted to focus on more, and while we have a demonstrable track record of successfully supplying a range of clients in diverse locations, it has always been difficult to be 'on the ground' as much as we would like. There are so many great things happening, and I am so very excited about this new chapter," said founder Nik Darlington.

McDiarmid brought "a wealth" of knowledge and experience to the team, and strong relationships across the food and drink industry in Scotland, he added.

Red Squirrel supplies the independent off- and on-trade nationwide and has worked with a growing band of restaurants and Indies in Scotland since 2015, mostly in Edinburgh and Glasgow but also in more remote locations, such as Islay.
