Portman Group hits the Spot

Published:  23 July, 2008

Industry watchdog The Portman Group has found a drinks company in breach of its code. Hot Shotz and Absinthe, produced by Pioneer International Drinks, were both found to be in breach.

Firstly, the flavour names of the Hot Shotz range, which include Love Juice, G Spot, Stiff One, Sixty Niner, and Threesome contained either a direct or indirect association with sexual success'. Furthermore, the Group's panel ruled that both the Hot Shotz range and the Absinthe product had a particular appeal to under-18s because of the unusual and gimmicky nature of the test tube packaging'.

Complaints were also upheld against Rocket Fuel Vodka and Rocket Fuel Ice, produced by The Rocket Fuel Drinks Company, after the panel decided that the term rocket fuel' was widely associated

with something very strong and very powerful'.

However, a complaint lodged against the Zebedee Beer pump clip, produced by the Rebellion Beer Company, was not upheld, after the panel noted that The Magic Roundabout character was retro in nature', and would have a nostalgic appeal to an older generation of 30- and 40-somethings, rather than a particular appeal to under-18s'.
